For a living countryside and a sustainable tomorrow

At Langhard Lantbruk, life is about something quite simple – taking care of the land, the animals and the food that grows here. The farm is a place where nature is given space and where small-scale farming and animal husbandry become part of everyday life.

We run the farm with the belief that food and farming don't need to be large-scale to be meaningful. Quite the opposite. When crops and animals are close to people, a different relationship with food emerges. You see how it grows, how the animals live and how the seasons affect everything that happens on the farm.

Here you'll find several different animals that together create a vibrant farm environment.

Hedemora Hens

Our Hedemora hens are an old Swedish heritage breed with roots in the Dalarna region. They are known for their hardiness and fluffy plumage that helps them withstand cold winters. The hens live in their aviaries but are also regularly allowed to roam freely around the farm. They scratch in the soil, search for small insects and explore their surroundings – just as hens naturally like to do. For many visitors, seeing the hens walking freely around the farmyard is a special experience.

Japanese Jumbo Quails

The farm is also home to Japanese jumbo quails. They are small but very productive birds that lay beautifully speckled eggs with a rich flavour. Despite their size, the quails have a lot of personality and are often a popular attraction when visitors stop by the farm.

Dorper & Gotland Sheep

In the paddocks around the farm, our Dorper and Gotland sheep graze. The sheep eat grass and herbs while helping to keep the pastures open. We let them stay outdoors as long as the weather allows, often well into autumn before winter arrives. The Dorper sheep are robust and known for their calm temperament, while the Gotland sheep are valued for their beautiful grey curly wool.

Cultivation

Cultivation is another important part of life on the farm. Here we grow potatoes and other crops suited to our climate. We work on a small scale and constantly try to find ways to farm sustainably, where nature's rhythm is part of the process.

Locally Grown & Collaboration

We strongly believe in locally grown food. When food is produced close to people, transport distances decrease and the connection between grower and consumer is strengthened. That's why we enjoy collaborating with other growers in the area. By sharing knowledge and experience, small producers can together contribute to a stronger local food system.

Reuse is also a natural part of how we work on the farm. Many things can be given new life instead of being thrown away – materials can be used again in growing beds, constructions or other solutions. This way we try to make the most of resources while reducing unnecessary waste.

Langhard Lantbruk is more than just a place where food is produced. It's a place where people can get close to animals, cultivation and nature. During farm visits you can see the animals, experience the growing areas and take part in what is produced here.

Our hope is that the farm can be a small part of something bigger – a future where more people have a closer relationship with food, the landscape and the nature around us.
